Hey fellow PDX Media Watch fans. I'm Lynn Siprelle, former insider, current geek. Because I'm a geek, and a fan of industry gossip though long-removed from the scene, I've opened this website up for those of us who miss the old blog. At the request of a buddy in Corvallis I've opened it up to include all of Oregon, not just Portland.
About Lynn and Cablenut: Who Do We Think We Are, Anyway?
I have been kicking around Oregon media since the early '80s. Alum of KLCC, OPB (twice), KGW-TV (where, despite general impressions, I was NOT an intern) and KINK. If I knew you in those days, let me just apologize now. Sobriety, Prozac, age, illness and children can do wonders for a body. Drop me a line for a more complete and specific apology.
I am now a web developer, limiting my practice to the content management system Drupal and its offspring, CivicSpace--progressive campaigns, nonprofits and fiber artisans a specialty retired; I have a very strange and rather dangerous heart condition that has landed me in hospital a few times over the last few years and in 2006 it finally got bad enough that I had to pull in my shingle.
While I was hospitalized, my husband John, aka Cablenut, stepped up and began policing the grounds here as well and is now officially the publisher of our little blog empire, the crown of which is TheNewHomemaker.com. John and I have been married since 1994 and we have two girls (aka the Nutlings). He worked in the cable industry, hence the moniker, but now works at a Very Large Internet Company (the VLIC). He likes guns, kilts and military science fiction, not necessarily in that order.
How to Participate
To blog here you have to sign up. You don't have to identify yourself. Get a free account somewhere like hotmail and give yourself a handle OTHER than "anonymous." We're doing it this way so we can at least keep all the anonymii straight.
You can comment here anonymously but you will have to wait to see your comment until I can approve it. This cuts down on spam and also on libelous remarks. Remember that even as an anonymous commenter your IP address is logged and if I get subpoenaed for it I will release it, seeing as I have no lawyer. But they'll have to subpoena me for it and I'll make sure every last ugly bit of any legal harrassment of the site or its commenters ends up blasted all over the Internet. That's the only real defense I can offer.
Supporting OMI
OMI is completely affiliate- and ad-supported. We get our income from Google Adsense, Blogads (the ads in the near right column), Cafepress gear, ad-free subscriptions and Amazon sales. We encourage you, if you have Amazon shopping to do anyway, to purchase through OMI. Even if you don't buy the specific item you click on, we get a spiff for every item you buy after clicking. Most months our site income doesn't cover the expense of hosting it, let alone paying for my time (as if), so we appreciate your Amazon purchases immensely.
About Content
If you blog we reserve the right to post--or not post--your blog to the front page. If your blog is not front paged don't take it personally; it's probably something we didn't think was completely germane to the site, or expressed an opinion we didn't think reflected OMI sufficiently. It's still published and it's still available to readers; it's just not teased on the front page.
We try very hard not to squash commenters and bloggers too much. As long as you keep it non-libelous (we've had a lot of trouble with that kind of non-protected speech), we'll let you say it. Though we'd prefer you'd also keep it polite, we are not here to teach you politeness. That was your mother's job. Please pay attention to your mother. Thank you.
About Bribes
OMI gleefully accepts bribes. We'll eat your food, drink your drink, and take your swag, to a point. But don't expect us to respect you in the morning!
Current bribe list
The Portland Mercury bought me a large chai and sent me a get-well card when I was in the hospital for nearly a month. The only ones of you to do so. I work, work, work for you people and what do I get? You never call, you never write--except the Merc. They lurve me.
KATU plied me with food, drink and swag. For a short time, they were my new BFFs, but then the Merc reminded me how much they lurve me and so now they're back to being my BFFs.
KPTV feted me and the Nutlings, giving us a station tour and Starbucks.
Austin Reed, in the same tour, gets his own entry for giving us a vintage Good Day Oregon mug with a little sign that said "OMI RULES!!!" So bribery plus flattery. ;)
The Merc are still my BFFs because Scott told me several times he likes my new haircut and Matt listens patiently to my food rants every time I see him.
I've also been invited to WWeek parties (but sadly haven't been able to go) and have been to some unofficial lay-off parties for a station that shall go unnamed but I bet you can guess. ;) I have friends and former colleagues at pretty much every TV station in town and several radio stations. It makes it so hard to play favorites!
What else is Lynn up to?
I am webmaster for Amanda Fritz's 2008 run for city council, as I was last time, and on October 15th I'll be able to tell you about a super cool thing I'm doing at my main site, TheNewHomemaker.com. I think you'll be interested.
At any rate
I love doing this website, and I love hearing from readers. If you have tips, send them to me via the "contact us" link in the top menu. I promise anonymity as far as I can. When the lawyers come out--subpoena in hand, though--that's far enough.
Cheers,
Lynn

Hey, Lynn, after I signed up, and changed to a password I can remember, I was given the choice of a time setting which will be displayed for me. One problem: today is Friday, and all the choices presented to me were Saturday and Sunday hours.
