.2 Network is coming to Meredith, but where will other content go?

Submitted by drchaps on Sun, 07/13/2008 - 11:57pm.

Meredith has signed an affiliation deal with .2 network as a digital subchannel, run by Guardian Enterprise Group out of Ohio. It is not known which side of the house will inherit the channel, although my bet is on KPTV as this looks to be a solid contender for movies and content based on the website.

I have an email into KPTV.com to see if they can tell me where the subchannel will end up.

Tim Becker joins KOIN

Submitted by drchaps on Sat, 10/13/2007 - 11:35pm.

Well tonight was jittery with new hire Tim Becker on the air. First of all, welcome to the jungle Mr. Becker, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I think he was brought in for tonight with not a lot of notice, because he couldn't see the scores move and often he would sputter when highlights would change without him knowing. Could be a producer who put together tonights feed and Tim didn't get enough time to proof.

All in all, KPTV's old sports crew is back together in force. Maybe the ship is starting to right itself at third place K-O-I-N.

He hasn't hit the website yet, but hopefully Lynn can throw it up when she sees it.

The Tube goes silent

Submitted by drchaps on Mon, 10/01/2007 - 8:22am.

Overnight (in case anyone cared) we lost the first real channel created for the digital subchannel market. The Tube as it was aptly called was a 24/7 network devoted to music videos for a wide variety of age groups. This OMI user will particularly miss it as I loved the mix of music the channel gave off. I even put it on in the background some days while I worked instead of the radio.

New KATU graphics package?

Submitted by drchaps on Thu, 08/30/2007 - 12:27pm.

While perusing some of the pictures from Rich Sipe over at Portland Metblogs from the Blogger evening, I came across this eerie picture for Sports Extra on Katu.

Above is the picture... if you look at the bottom right you will see a new KATU represented by a flag shaped red background over the "2" with a white KATU at the bottom. The graphics are something I have never seen before on the station. Is a backdrop change and a total graphics dump on the way?

Hola Azteca America!

Submitted by drchaps on Tue, 05/08/2007 - 5:37pm.

From OregonLive:

Quote:
A new Spanish-language TV station is coming to Portland.

Azteca America, the No. 3 Spanish-language television network in the United States, is launching an affiliate in Portland.

As of July 30, Azteca America will be transmitted on KWVT (52), according to a news release.

I don't know how much damage KWVT can do here in Portland, but they could get a huge following in Salem and Woodburn, which recently had operations begin at community oriented 96.3.

Also, no notes in this breaking news about if Ken Lewetag and Northwest Television are still the principle owners and whether this includes the other LP signals he is vying for. I'm sure this will come as more info develops.

Website wars heating up!!! KATU = NEW

Submitted by drchaps on Mon, 09/11/2006 - 10:55pm.

I looked around and didn't see another post on this. K2 looks to give the new KOIN.com some competition with its new and improved website.

katu.com screenshot

I see it is built for those with higher resolution screens, so if you live in the days of 640x480 good luck to you. Some things of note... Video on this site is the youtube type, one click on the screen and it plays. No more having to view a pop up just to see a news story.

Navigation also is horizontal rather than vertical now. Personally I like it much better, as it has cleaner lines and less table borders. And hey, they have a new staff page too, with bigger pictures! http://www.katu.com/about/people

Digital TV Subchannels

Submitted by drchaps on Mon, 08/21/2006 - 1:28am.

I wanted to start a conversation particularly on The Box and the technology it employs. Where does everyone think its headed? Where does everyone think digital subchannels will go in the next 10 years?

I picked up my first HDTV antenna from ebay this week (A Zenith HDTV1 antenna to be precise) on my LG LCD HDTV tuner and it rocks. It's completely different engineering wise of course, but for those of you in who just casually visit this board should realize that you don't see static anymore. Its either a full signal, a medium signal with some skipping or a bad signal with a ton of skipping or a drop of signal. Personally I'd rather deal with the static and a picture than the darn skipping and loss of audio. Also, along with that loss of static is the loss of certain signals. Where I live in Gresham, I can't get both KGW and KPXG at the same time on their digital feeds, making me lose out on the PAX and Worship feeds I was eager to at least look at. I have to get up and repoint the antenna to make it work. Aside from that, I get the channel 8 weather feed, create tv on PBS and multiple religious channels (although these are not hardly watched in my house... How much Enlace do I need?)
