Jeers to The Oregonian for shrinking the Sunday Comics. I defy anyone to read Doonesbury today without squinting.

Odd remark during pledge drive

Submitted by Spiro on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 5:53pm.

OK, it was just an off-hand comment intended to squeeze out small donations during the final (I hope) pledge break, but I heard this comment by one of OPB's people and it troubled me.

Paraphrasing, but close, and I sincerely apologize if I have it wrong:

"You know and I know that a couple of bigwigs could come in here and open their wallets, and they would have undue influence over what goes out."

Tree lighting...

Submitted by Spiro on Fri, 11/23/2007 - 9:44pm.

Gee, that was kinda awkward, no? Pixilated shots from Sky 8 (at least it's out of the shop)...no shot or ID of Brenda and Russ on the stage..no crowd mic...and total confusion over what song to sing...resulting in no music at all..did this take everybody by surprise?

You do a live cutin from a major community event, and you should have your act at least somewhat together, right? Especially when it's an event you own?

Worth reading for local education reporters

Here's a link to a commentary on blueoregon.com by former school board member Sue Hagmeier. It's a very critical take on the current administration and school board of PPS. With a search beginning for a new superintendent and several new members joining the board, this is worth seeing for anyone who covers schools:

Props to PAC-man

Just wanted to say right-on to Peter for today's rip on the TV Turnoff Week people. A more self-righteous bunch never drew breath. They don't watch, fine, most of the time I don't either, but do not ever tell me what to do. I already have a mommy.

There's plenty of crap on the chattering cyclops, but that remote has all kinds of buttons including "off." I'll use it when I want--not when some pretentious nanny tells me to.
