KGW Holds DTV Test

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 1:11am.

KGW apparently held a DTV test tonight and Seattle's KING-5 will be next week. Apparently, Spokane's KREM2 held a similar test on May 18th.

KGW NewsChannel 8 Helps Viewers on DTV Readiness

Belo Station to conduct Digital TV test July 18 during 6 PM news

PORTLAND, OR -- On Friday, July 18 KGW NewsChannel 8 will pull the plug on its newscast for five to ten seconds so viewers can find out if their television is ready for conversion to digital television. KGW NewsChannel 8 business reporter Joe Smith will guide viewers through the July 18 test during NewsChannel 8's 6:00 PM newscast. For five to ten seconds the analog signal will be turned off. Viewers able to see the station's broadcast during that time have a television ready for DTV. For viewers who see snow, Joe Smith will explain what steps are needed to get ready for the DTV transition.

Wilson Chow leaving NWCN/KGW

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Wed, 04/30/2008 - 11:32pm.

Some news from NWCN:

Quote:
This is another note of mixed emotions about a soon-to-be-departing member of NWCN and KGW. Wilson Chow, is leaving our operations to take a position with the Boeing Company, with his last day being Friday, May 9.

Rod Gramer and I cannot express how instrumental Wilson has been in the success of the Portland Bureau operation over the last three years and his major contribution to the continuing strength of KGW's news team. He has been valued for his hustle, enterprise, early-adapting web work and his handling of breaking news no matter when or where.

Why, oh why?

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Sun, 03/30/2008 - 8:25am.

My big pet peeve on sites like this is the anonymous posters. My two cents:

If you regularly post on this site, you should register for a screen name. It's not the once-in-a-while posters that bug me. It's the regular posters. Not that there's true credibility that comes with it, but after a while, I think (and hope) you tend to get more respect. I like to recognize the person (or screen name of a stranger) to whom I'm replying, as it makes it easier to see their point of view based on previous posts.

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Mon, 09/17/2007 - 6:43pm.

I hear KTVZ started their news in HD last week, but from what I understand, it's really still only 16x9 SD. Any other knowledge from anyone?

Apparently, the KFXO sale is final...

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Fri, 06/08/2007 - 6:09am.

Wikipedia's article on KFXO-LP mentioned something that led me to find this press release on the Meredith website.

Quote:
DES MOINES, Iowa, May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Meredith Corporation (NYSE: MDP) announced today it has finalized the sale of KFXO-LP, its low-power FOX affiliate in Bend, OR, to NPG of Oregon, Inc. NPG is a wholly- owned subsidiary of News-Press & Gazette Company, and owner of KTVZ(TV), the NBC affiliate in Bend. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The transaction will not have a material financial effect.

KFXO-LP is commonly referred to as Fox Central Oregon. Meredith acquired the station in 1997. Just last year, KFXO-LP added the only 10:00 p.m. newscast in the market.

Any "Seattle" Media Insiders?

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Fri, 03/09/2007 - 7:20am.

I've been participating in this blog for a while from Bend, but was offered a job up at NWCN. Is anyone aware of any blogs around the Seattle area similar to this one? (i.e. "Seattle Media Insiders"?)
