O Readership Down 8.45%; Bend Bulletin Up (Updated)

Submitted by mfrk on Mon, 10/27/2008 - 12:50pm.

The Oregonian's circulation is down 8.5 percent to 283,321.

USA Today and The Wall Street Journal are the only papers showing gains compared to the same time period a year ago.

[Thanks, was just coming in here to post this myself--L]

Update from Lynn: A commenter points out that while the O's numbers are going down, the Bend Bulletin's numbers have actually gone up 1.79%.

FSN, ESPN... OSN?

Submitted by mfrk on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 9:21pm.

So there's a big football game in Eugene Saturday and everyone is clambering to cover it.

Oregon Press Release wrote:
FSN will air its production on FSN Arizona, FSN West and FSN Northwest in the state of Oregon. The Oregon Sports Network will distribute the game in the state of Oregon. ESPN will originate its own production to air in all other U.S. television markets not covered by the FSN telecast, including the state of Washington and Northern California.

Sooooo.... it looks like both FSN and ESPN will have the game in Oregon. OSN, providing the ESPN feed, will "distribute the game in the state of Oregon" in addition to the FSN Northwest 'cast? I guess so. I don't think OSN would get blacked out for the FSN feed. OSN had the rights first.

CSN NW website up

Submitted by mfrk on Sun, 10/28/2007 - 3:46pm.

Comcast has a website ready for CSN Northwest. The big site indicates all the coverage. Looks like it's staying pretty Portland centered with lost of school coverage.

What's this mountain in the logo, though?

The Today Show has extended to four hours. So now it's only Regis and Kelly before the news at noon.

SportsNet Northwest

Submitted by mfrk on Thu, 09/06/2007 - 2:56pm.

Let's speculate (and hope from some real inside wisdom).

There are a couple of things still unclear about this whole new network thing:

Programming: Blazers yes. Who else? Portland State? Univ. Portland? HS sports? What kind of OSU and U of O coverage will CSN have? What about "News" shows? Both morning and evening shows have been mentioned.

Studio: Rose Garden? ASCN's old place? A new one?

Talent: We now know that Pivo's out. Will the regular Blazer crew return? Anyone new?

Availability: Comcast, yes. Satellite, if you have the right one. What about in Bend with Bend Broadband? Eugene and the upper valley with Charter? What about Quest?

24 HOURS!!: There're only 82 Blazer games. What about in the summer? 3pm in the afternoon? Will we see Canzano's KXL show?

KOIN/Providence Health Reports (Updated and Promoted)

Submitted by mfrk on Mon, 06/25/2007 - 10:26pm.

OPB teased a story this morning about KOIN’s weekly Providence sponsored health segments. They said that "some of the reports feature Providence doctors and experts."
Is this news? We’ve talked about this before….
Says they’ll have a story on Oregon Considered today.
Disclosure of sponsor plus using them in the story?

Update and bump from Lynn: Here's the OPB story, by Colin Fogarty. Pretty much reiterates what many have already discussed here, but does a more thorough job of it. The part that stood out, though, didn't involve KOIN:

KPTV Channel 12 also has a sales agreement with Providence. News director Patrick McCreary says because of that the station will call Providence for a medical story.

He says he regularly consults with KPTV's sales department for advice on whom to quote.

Nonetheless, McCreary says KPTV's news is not for sale.

Comcast SportsNet Northwest

Submitted by mfrk on Tue, 05/22/2007 - 6:34pm.

In a deal dropping FSN, the Trail Blazers will be the featured team on Comcast’s new SportsNet Northwest. Like SNY in New York City, and similar stations in Sacramento, Philadelphia and Chicago, Comcast SportsNet will concentrate on area sports, in a 24-hour format.

Sides say talks broke down between Fox and the Blazers. Fox says the team was asking too much, especially after a dismal year.
Is this another ASCN? I don’t think so. Comcast has proved this can work in other markets.

This leaves FSN alone in Seattle (they could change their name to “FSN Seattle

HD

Submitted by mfrk on Sun, 04/29/2007 - 8:03pm.

When will Portland really make the switch? Not like KOIN, but with full HD everything. It’s only a matter of time. Forty-Five stations already have.

Quote:
The new entries span a wide range of geography, affiliations and market size: WSOC, the Cox station and ABC affiliate in Charlotte, N.C (DMA #26).; KCBS and KCAL, the CBS owned-and-operated stations in Los Angeles (DMA #2); Belo’s independent station in Phoenix (DMA #13); and Cordillera stations and NBC affiliates KVOA Tucson (DMA #70) and WLEX Lexington, Ky. (DMA #63). WLEX, which launched on April 26, is actually the second station to offer HD news in the Lexington market, following CBS affiliate and Gray Television station WKYT, which launched on April 13.

KPTV on Craigslist

Submitted by mfrk on Wed, 03/14/2007 - 9:04pm.

Yup, looks like KPTV is looking for a Floor Director on Craigslist. But the spot isn't listed on their website.
Finding good people from Craigslist? Why not advertise on your own site?

KGW Sunrise to begin at 4:30

Submitted by mfrk on Thu, 02/22/2007 - 2:21pm.

Tagged at the end of "Breaking News" of the Anna Nicole Smith trial, KGW announces "Programming note: KGW Sunrise starts at 4:30 a.m."

I guess they did copy KPTV here.

[Lynn adds: Is this a permanent change, or is it in response to the possibility of overnight bad weather?]
