Helping a Portland Writer

Submitted by shawnlevy on Fri, 04/11/2008 - 4:18pm.

D.K. Holm, the Portland author and longtime film and book critic for Willamette Week and other print and internet publications, has found himself suffering a medical crisis without the protection of insurance. On April 27 at Cinema 21, several friends of his will be hosting a benefit to help give him a financial hand.

Details of the event -- and how to help if you can't attend -- can be found here: http://culturepulp.typepad.com/helpdkholm

The word you're looking for is 'mitzvah'.

Pete Schulberg Sighting!

Submitted by shawnlevy on Wed, 11/30/2005 - 7:11pm.

Good news for friends/fans of the inimitable Pete Schulberg, whom I ran into on the street this afternoon at lunchtime.

Firstly, he's shaved off his trademark 'stache, for the first time, he says, in three decades. He looks a peach.

Secondly, he's just begun working this week as PIO for the city department of Parks and Recreation.

I have never failed to enjoy chatting with him, one of the true gentlemen I've known in this business, and I'm sure there are others here who'll agree with me in wishing him the best of luck in his new post. I think those folks are lucky to nab him, myself.
