I can understand you criticizing our not leading with the bridge story. We always take the heat for those kinds of decisions from folks on this board. But when you say you "think" your way would have developed a 10 or 12 rating I have to laugh. You really should be a news director somewhere if you have instincts that good. As it was, last night's 10pm hour long newscast was THE highest rated program on any station (local, network, or cable) all day and all night long. Not just news program.. ANY program...beating Nightly News, So you think you can dance.. Jeopardy, Oprah so on. And with an 18 share for the entire hour that means 1 in every five homes was tuning in. Is that good enough for us? Never. But I bet it would be good enough for any of the other 3 stations in town.
You don't have to like what we do, as long as our viewers do that's just fine with us.
I don't agree by the way with your critique. For one thing, the bridge story was at the top of our Cold Open, then the top of the B-block. We had an anchor package.. not a vo.. then a package from a reporter, with another vo in between.
You also don't mention that KPTV was on the air before KOIN or KGW with live video of the bridge at 4:40, breaking into programming for 5 minutes or so.
