If his contract expired, and they decided not to renew it, there's probably not much Ed can do. It's an opportunity to wipe a big salary off the books, in advance of the sale being finalized. Nobody in the basement has apparently been told anything, so it looks like they are trying to minimize the public fallout, by keeping the thing quiet. Looks like that strategy won't work, but they bought themselves a week, if the above poster is correct. No matter what you think of Ed's schtick over the years, he is a local icon, and to have him just mysteriously disappear into the sunset, is really sad.
