KPTV hired you primarily because you'll work cheaper than someone with more experience. I'm not saying you can't do the job.. I have no idea who you are.. but in market #23, KPTV probably had lots of more qualified and experienced applicants for your position (especially if you're on-air) Many of those other applicants would expect more money because they're working in bigger markets. Most of KPTV's new people are happy to get a 10k or 15k raise from their small market job. They think they hit it big -- not knowing how much less they're getting paid than other people at other stations. When they get better and figure it all out.. they leave and KPTV goes out and trolls the small markets for another fresh young face. Again, I'm not criticizing KPTV.. Their management is making it work with good ratings and a healthy bottom line. Just stating facts.
