That's a great story, it's nice to have memories like that to hold on to, I'm sure they come flooding back every December.
Sounds like we had a parallel childhood around Christmas, my grandma (on my dad's side) and I would do the same exact thing. Hit The Crescent for all the visual goodies...go check out the gigantic "stained glass" angel over at the Bon Marche...then off to Newberry's to get our picture with Santa. I wish I still had some of those pictures, she passed in 1995. Talk about bringing back memories...that big, blue, nicely lit "Newberry's" sign in bold cursive script facing south on Riverside. Loved going downtown during the season, all the energy and hustle & bustle any little boy could ever ask for.
