Every show. Even mornings.

So much for KPTV's long-predicted demise of the ocho.

Number one late night news in Portland. Their 10pm beats everyone's late night newscast by a landslide.

I can not believe any one with half a brain would compare 10:00 numbers to 11:00 numbers. It just blows my mind. When all four stations go head to head at 11:00, who's first and who's dead last?

if it matters who is number one late night. When they show an advertiser the late night numbers, where do you think the client wants to place their ads? On the station with the most viewers. That would be KPTV. It matters that their 10pm newscast brings in double the amount of viewers as the other guys 11pm newscasts.

And before you blast me for even bringing up sales revenues, (I can hear you now, "What does that have to do with good journalism?" ) we are talking numbers. And the only reason ratings exist is to measure viewership so you can charge money for ads which pay the bills for your newsroom.

The last GM lost her job because KPTV couldn't make enough money from those high ratings. Maybe that vegan strip club will buy some time after GDO gave it so much free publicity!

Ok, from now on, we'll start comparing KGW's 5pm newscast to KPTV's 4pm, because according to this guy, it make perfect sense. Who's bringing in more sales revenue there?

Does this also mean KPTV is #1 in the mornings since the 7-9am show is the highest rated news show before 5pm? Maybe it could be promoted at the #1 news show in the first 17 hours of the day? "Good Day Oregon, your #1 news program for 70% of the day!" Always remember there are a hundred ways to spin the ratings. If the raw numbers don't work, go to the demos, if those don't work go to growth . . . what happens when the rating periods go away?

I watch KPTV because of Stephanie Kralevich

Seriously? It would take a lot more than that to get me or anyone I know to watch local news. Oh wait, my Grandma still watches local tv news, so I guess there's one person.

If KPTV had done better there would be 5X more posts on this subject. Glad to see they're back to work over there.
