Weekend Open Thread, Old Stomping Grounds Edition 2/29/08-3/2/08

And also Leap Day edition.

Cablenut, the Nutlings and I are piling in the car in a bit to take off for our old stomping grounds, Eugene, for a family birfday party. I left there in late '82 after nearly 2 years volunteering for KLCC in lieu of college; Cablenut graduated from South in '89 and headed up here in '92, and not long after, made the questionable decision to sweep me off my feet.

It's short notice, but does anyone down there wanna meet up with us? We'll be staying near U of O.

Hi Lynn:

Mom and I would love to meet you in person, we have so much to talk about.

Scott

P.S. I'm a little short at the moment, we'll just have some of whatever you're having.

KATU has a temp set this weekend. A new one coming soon???

They mentioned on one of the newscasts Friday that the set was being dismantled starting this weekend, to build a new one.

Now that AMNW has been relocated to another studio, the main studio at KATU is now ready to be gutted to the walls to make room for the news set which will be HUGE. The new set will take up the entire studio and will feature a main anchor area, a weather center, several reporter presentation areas, as well as an interview set. There will also be a few surprises beyond the usual array of plasma screens and Duratrans. Demolition has already begun, and construction will start soon with a debut sometime before the May book. Until then, look for some pretty crazy camera positions as they add yet another 1/2 hour to their afternoon block of news.

It's nice to see Fisher spending some money on their old Sandy digs. Maybe it will keep some heat on the other guys. Are KATU suits generally happy with their February book? It looks like they improved a little bit in the evenings but no real jump in the morning with the female anchor switch.

Lynn,

I'm new to checking out this site, but do you ever considering OMI gatherings at a restaurant or somewhere? I can understand why you wouldn't want a bunch of strangers in your home, but it would be fun and interesting to meet up and have some good discussion. Any thoughts?

...but no one's seemed very interested, and it's been hard to find a time/location when people can actually come. Now that Cablenut works from home it'd be a little easier for me to get away; any suggestions?

Since KATU is under destruction, and they were so good about hosting the bloggers, surely they wouldn't mind all the OMI people showing up some day. I'm sure they would send out for pizza and sodas or something. And I don't think they would mind having OMI people who work for other stations snooping, I mean, looking around. What harm would we do? And we could take all those pictures for their archives. We could be helpful and have a good time.

Between the cruddy set/backdrop, bad lighting and Angelica Thornton sitting in for Deb Knapp I thought something was wrong with my TV.
