Wow. If there was anything about him, he was not disorganized! Yea his desk was cluttered but yours would be to if you were doing as much as he did. He also sent out DETAILED memos every day of the stories he had set up for the morning. And some people were too lazy to read them! I actually heard people in the newsroom on several occasions ask what he was doing when he sent a memo to them the previous day or the night before! IT's true! All some people wanted to do was bitch about him when they didn't have a leg to stand on.
And this cul-de sac thing. That's more bullshit. I've heard it pronounced cul-de-saw before. I only know of ONE instance he pronounced it that way. Everybody wanted to make a big deal out of it. There's a lot of things that get pronounced ways that make no sense. Take the local pronouncer for COUCH. It's just like some people at KOIN saying WARSHinton. But, nobody comes down on them for that.
Constantly making factual errors? What are you smoking? And what he said about the Bush family was fact. Everybody knows what he said was fact. Otherwise KOIN would have run a correction. Did we do that? NO, CAUSE WHAT HE SAID WAS FACT! Bad judgement? Hardly. And he pointed out that past problems in the family are why shes makes appearances like the one in Portland. ALSO TRUE!
And why would they worry about a Laura Bush interview anyway. The desk sends him a memo with the wrong information that ended up on air and they worry about an interview with Laura Bush? Talk about bad judgment, I'd say it's on management part.
And most of the time he was out of the station doing stories. I can't tell you how many times I saw and him and a photographer get back at 1:30 or 2 PM when their schedule is 4am-1. Then Lyn would stay to make sure he handed in scripts complete WITH LOG TIMES AND instructions for editing. Something a lot of people including producers never bother with. He was good about that.
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE DISORGANIZATION JUST GO BACK TO EDIT OR TOC ABOUT A HALF HOUR BEFORE MOST NEWSCASTS AND SEE THE GUYS DEAL WITH THE DISORGANIZED STUFF THAT GETS HANDED THEM AT THE LAST MINUTE BY PRODUCERS AND REPORTERS, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDED THEM HOURS BEFORE.
He was very competent and people were looking for stones to throw at him the second he came here. He did a lot of great stuff and nobody here gives a shit. And he's in good company with a growing number that got tired of it here and left.
