More local radio gets the axe--a blessing in diguise?

Jason goes on to say he respected Steve's work (even as a Beavers fan) because of its quality. No reason why KPNW let him go, though we all know syndicated stuff is cheaper.
Now, I could care less about the Ducks or Beavers, but as for Steve's future, I think this is a prime opportunity for a recently laid-off journalist to get in the game on his own.

It was a great show...

I'm a big talk radio fan and a broadcaster myself. I am not a huge sports fan but Steve's show was good enough to get my attention anyway. Seems like the folks most likely to be cut in the Eugene market are the well established ones.

Sportstalk was every bit as good as any of the ESPN sports programs. I'm sorry it's gone.

Steve is a good guy. He and I became friends because we got stuck next to each other as we covered Ducks basketball over the last few years. Steve has a great presence on the mic and his shows were never boring. I wish him good luck in whatever he does.

Odd Move

I can see the justification in dumping sports because the station is branded as a mainly news station (as opposed to the mainly sports station in the market) which covers all Duck sports. But with Bicoastal Media getting the rights to the U.S. Olympic Trials 08 in Eugene, is seems like they'd want to keep Tannen through June to at least get a little REAL sports coverage on the station.

I agree Steve should start a blog and podcast of his own, but that isn't going to pay the bills!

Hopefully he can catch on at a competitor and blow savage away.

Perhaps Tannen wasn't the perfect fit for the time slot, but Michael Savage as the replacement?

Glenn Beck (now heard after Savage on KPNW) is a proven ratings winner. Beck is also much more entertaining and informative than Savage in my opinion. My advice would be to flip these two shows.

Savage Nation - the guy Savage sounds like a whining Woody Allen type filled with neuroses galore and whining constantly about all the whiners he dislikes. A sound replacement for the Tannen local dude who got fired. This listener would rather hear Savage Nation whinery than anything having to do with Duck sports or any sports for that matter.
