You're romanticizing the past, Joe. It was crap 10 years ago, and 10 years before that. It was never, ever good. It was more fun, say, 30 years ago. Budgets were huge, the founders were still running the stations, and people did a lot of coke on the job. But the product was still crap.

I know I'm romanticizing, more appropriate I should be, as we all, holding the media to, that tired cliche, of a higher standard. Which is really all I meant to do. The media is an important factor in the checks-and-balances that make this nation work. The journalistic integrity should be held in high standard for a first-responder.

Here's the crux of it... This is a most unique time for Television. Stations are losing viewers left and right to the "new media", whatever that is. Most stations are only hanging on by their reputation alone. The future of the media outlets here in Portland, as is across the nation, are depending more and more on the younger generation, which I fall into. Now factor in Tivo that has the ability to skip over commercial content and all the various other "news" outlets available and revenue stations have a problem. I don't think I'm alone when I say, that I really don't watch local news, and with more and more saying that I don't think a station can survive on a "first responder; breaking news" kind of revenue.
