There's no doubt that some people can't handle working overnight, I know for me it impacted my health.
I did it for several months just after college at a telecom here in Portland. I noticed after a month or so my health gradually getting worse. Combine that with the fact I was commuting daily from La Center back and forth into downtown Portland, I was dead to the world once my head the pillow. Luckily I was eventually able to change my shift, otherwise I'm sure I would've been sick every other week.
On the other hand, I had a couple of co-workers that preferred an overnight shift, and they never called out sick. It all depends on what type of person you are.
