looks like the CBS station in Medford isn't doing its homework: http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080403/NEWS/8040...
April Fools gag leads to TV report of John McCain visit
April 03, 2008 6:00 AM
An apparent April Fools prank led to a report by a local television station that Republican presidential candidate John McCain would be making a campaign stop at the Medford Armory at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Trouble is, McCain was already spoken for. On Tuesday he will be in Congress listening to testimony from Gen. David Petraeus, commander of American forces in Iraq, said McCain presidential campaign spokeswoman Crystal Benton.
"It's just one of those things that turned out to be a stupid mistake," said Dave Sebastian, interim news director for KTVL TV Channel 10, based in Medford.
He said the station received a fax that appeared to be on legitimate McCain campaign stationery with press contact information included.
"Absolutely no bells went off," said Sebastian. "They should have."
He said the return fax number turned out to be anonymous and the station received word that it needed to do more checking of the information.
After some research, he said, "Nobody booked the Armory for that day and the campaign said 'no.' "
