I posted the Hunter S. quote originally, and it is in fact quite accurate with regards to MANAGEMENT, not the journalists who work under them; Remember, Management's job is to make money--your job as a journalist, is to tell stories.
The quote was placed in this thread referencing the recent mgmt. changes at KPTV, where greed (IMHO) is the prime motivator for the cohorts at the top. But then again, thats what makes Donald Trump successful too. Who can argue with his millions, right?
That said, you are correct when you say it doesnt apply to the rank-and-file. They are good people who don't make a load of cash, but that's the whole point of the quote !
I too have been one of the rank-and-file in the past, but thats why I moved on.
So my friend, who says I think of myself as sophisticated, you are mistaken. Ask anyone who has the cajones at KPTV to deny that the quote applies to bosses over there; They won't be able to do it with a clear conscience.
