Like all things, television ratings are cyclical. I can remember when each KATU, KOIN, KGW and KPTV have been the ratings leader. Today, KGW is the ratings leader, and I don't find that as any surprise. I sincerely feel KGW does a very good job. But I also enjoy certain elements of KATU and KPTV. I'm not particularly fond of KOIN, but I do watch it from time to time.
When I was in high school (in the mid to late 80's), I believe "Oregon Magazine" published a report on television news in the Portland market. It was a good profile, taking about the world of television news in Portland. I haven’t seen anything similar published since -- and that was over 20 years ago.
