I have worked in the Media business for a long time and seen many changes blow through this industry like a summer storm. I appreciate your long and insightful opinions and responses. I, to, am very concerned and discouraged with what I am witnessing in this industry. No longer does this medium distribute information to it's audience but rather seeks to entertain, strut their colors and show off a new set, graphics package or pointless live shot.
I have heard countless consultants proclaim "...We are the news leaders..." There is no such thing as a news leader in this market. Everyone is a news follower, and only shows up when the competition does. I have never seen Producers and News Management so concerned with what the competition is doing. Sorry for venting...
It continues to be my wish, and I continue to fight the losing battle, that this industry would grow up, stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and raise the intellectual bar.
