With as much disinformation tossed around it's important to get it right for those readers not technically inclined.
Yeah, it would be interesting to do an A/B with OTA and FiOS. I think you're right, even if the FiOS signal is pulled clean upstream from what goes out to the transmitter (i.e., not compromised with the bandwidth used by the weather programming subchannel) you'd be hard pressed to see the difference.
What is clear is that in many ways HD's best days are already behind us in, so far as we end-users receiving a relatively unmassaged, unmolested signal.
