1. If you do go the Cable Access route, NEVER apply at a tv station with that as the only experience on your resume. Do other stuff too. Do stuff that is better than what you did at cable access.
2. 3 words ... internship, internship, internship!!!!! Hands down.
3. When you're ready, hold out for the right opportunity. If there's an opening in Traffic but you really want to work in production, don't take the Traffic job. You'll get labeled ... and it becomes very, very difficult to change departments.
