Today will be Ron Pivo's last day at KGW. We knew he was leaving sometime, but didn't know just when. We don't know where he will end up, but I wish him the best.
Ron Pivo's last daySubmitted by Myhousemf on Fri, 03/02/2007 - 5:09pm.
Today will be Ron Pivo's last day at KGW. We knew he was leaving sometime, but didn't know just when. We don't know where he will end up, but I wish him the best. ( topics: KGW-TV )
They say they have to cut staff, so they get rid of the best sports guy in the market. Then they turn right around and hire the Clown in the Crate to do cheesy fluff on the morning news? What's wrong with this picture? 'Northwest Newschannel 8' takes one more step closer to Fox12. Sad. Good luck to Ron. I hope he quickly lands on his feet at another Portland station. That is really too bad. I hope they get another sports anchor to replace him. "now I just channel surf somewhere else when the sports segment comes on because I Just Don't Care." Us folks over at the nemesis station have said to each other that she's never looked better. She looks great. I think so too. I ran across home tape that included a KGW newscast from about 4 years ago. Tracy looks and sounds better now than she did then! What's her secret? That is it, pure and simple. Plus, it is the old shoe principal. It is comfortable. That's why all of her newscasts are #1 and why she's the most respected and well known anchor in Portland. Yet another superb kgw sportscaster leaves. All the best Ron. You were always professiona and good natured. worked with Ron in Medford. Was actually his photographer at a softball game where he was run over by the first base player during a live shot teasing his sports segment...made one of those Dick Clark bloopers shows. Good luck Ron! What was Ron's goodbye like at the staff meeting ? I heard it was pretty entertaining. I think becker should have gone...Pivo was more entertaining. I've heard that they are talking. Nothing confirmed mind you...just what I've heard around the shop. No! How can you not love his taste tests of every high school's hot dogs? Doesn't Becker still have other duties at KGW and the sports is just "for fun" thing? Are we going to see more Bjornson or are they going to hire Wayne Garcia to do the read...? There are two Beckers: Joe at KGW and Tim, formerly of KPTV, now of who knows where. ----- As a viewer, all I know is is Joe Becker's signature "I'm Joe Becker.......(pause)....(longer pause)...(awkwardly long pause)...have a good day" or whatever he says at the end of his sportscast is really, really......(pause)....really annoying. If I were in the Director/TD chair I'd clip that thing each and every time. that is about the most annoying bit on tv short of the infomercials. he is almost as full of himself as BHO. Ron is a good hire for anyone. Can't understand why they would get rid of him. There are so many who shout be let go but he's not one of them. So many guys i know have left TV and gone to sports radio where they aren't given 13 seconds to report the sports. Steve davis formerly of KOIN works in baltimore radio now after leaving TV. He was a real ass to work with but pretty talented. Wishing Ron nothing but the best. Joe Becker is a Portland fixture, though I don't think their other sports guy is any upgrade. Must be a cost-cutting move, losing Pivo instead of him. As for Ron, here's what I've liked and not liked about his work over the years: Liked: Disliked: But he got the job done and I hate to see guys go who have paid their dues. I think he might make a decent news reporter if he chose to go that route, though doesn't KPTV still have a sports opening? They're probably thinking flashy, cheap and Foxified. Anyway, Ron seems like the type who will land on his feet and be better off going where he's wanted. Post new comment |

Hopefully he's able to move to a bigger market where sports gets more attention. He's real good at what he does. Gonna miss ya, Ron!
