Looks like KGW has a new weekend evening weather guy. His name is Joe. That's all I know. You could probably find video of him on KGW.com or I might upload some later..... The first thing I noticed about him was he was young. And there arn't too many young (relativly) people at KGW. He reminds me of Chad Carter. ( topics: KGW-TV )
Hope someone got him an overcoat. Did he know this was the last outpost? Wagon train brings news from outside every 6 months, unless it rains. ...at least from what I hear. Bruce's non-compete should be up this month, so we should finally know soon whether Bruce really is going to KOIN. ----- from my sources, mainly internet, says his real name is Joe Smith. Now we know why he changed his name. He used to do morning weather in Orlando, then left last summer to "leave television". That's according to Orlando's version of OMI. He's a real meteorologist, a degree from Florida State University and has an AMS Seal. So why did he come to Portland to do weather on weekends after doing weekdays in Orlando? None of my business, but nothing else on this board is either. If it is the same guy, maybe he's using a different name because KGW already has a reporter named Joe Smith (who also works for the Portland Business Journal). Of course, that's speculation but it seems like what would make the most sense. That's his name, he's from Orlando. Bits I could find: From the comments I've read, he was well-liked. Watched him over the weekend and he's quite good so far. Great catch, KGW! And to Joe, welcome to Portland! I agree. I watched and was amazed - Joe absolutely fits. In some ways he's better than Bruce in that the "hyperbole" on everything is not there. His name is Joe Michaels and according to what they said during the 5:00 newscast, he comes to Portland from Florida. However, I haven't been able to find any additional information about him.
