Belo Names Deborah "DJ" Wilson President and General Manager of KGW-TV in Portland

PORTLAND -- Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC) announced today that Deborah "DJ" Wilson has been named president and general manager of KGW-TV, Belo's NBC affiliate in Portland, effective immediately. Since June 2005, Wilson has served as president and general manager of the Company's two television stations in Spokane, Washington, KREM-TV (CBS) and KSKN-TV (CW). She succeeds R. Paul Fry who was promoted to the position of Belo's vice president/Investor Relations and Corporate Communications earlier this year. Wilson will report to David Lougee, executive vice president/Media Operations.

"DJ's superior leadership and management skills, along with her 23 years of experience in the Northwest region, make her an excellent choice for this important role," Lougee said. "She's an outstanding business manager and a committed community leader, who will be an excellent complement to our outstanding management team at NewsChannel 8."

"I'm delighted to join one of the most talented television staffs in the country," said Wilson. "I plan to continue the station's commitment to providing the Portland community with the best television programming and quality news reporting, on-air and online, in the market."

Before her term in Spokane, Wilson served as vice president and Assistant General Manager at Belo's KING-TV (NBC), KONG-TV (IND) and NorthWest Cable News in Seattle/Tacoma from November 2002 to June 2005. Prior to that, she served in a sales and marketing leadership role in Belo's Seattle/Tacoma operations. Wilson has spent 23 years in the Seattle/Tacoma market during her 29-year career in television. Eight of those years were with KING, as vice president/Sales and Marketing and director/Sales and Marketing from 1998 to 2002 and as national sales manager and local sales manager from 1991 to 1995. She spent 10 years with KIRO-TV in various sales management positions from 1982 to 1988 and 1974 to 1978. She has also worked as local sales manager at WJBK-TV in Detroit, national sales manager at WAGA-TV in Atlanta, and vice president/Sales and Marketing at WBRC-TV in Birmingham.

That's Katherine Cook. Do a search for her at OMI. There *might* be a post or two about her... or several dozen.

Ouch. That's the second time KGW's News Director has been passed over for that promotion.
Everyone knows he was just salivating for that job.

How endearing to see the old KREM-KGW-KING farm system still in place!

Gramer incompetant as ND...hmmmm, he came in and built the place into a dominant number one station. His track record in Boise and Portland speaks for itself. It's ludicrous to even use the work incompetant.

KGW was #1 when he got here. He didn't build anything, but a bunch of great people have left the place since he arrived, LOOK AT THE FACTS!

KGW was NOT #1 when Gramer arrived. They were getting killed by Oslund's gang over at KOIN. I remember it well. If you can show us some numbers to prove otherwise, bring 'em on..

Not only was KOIN kicking butt in the 5-6pm slot, KATU owned the 6:30 and the 11pm was up for grabs. One year after Gramer arrived, KGW started dominating all those shows and has since. An 8-year run under Gramer! So LOOK AT THE FACTS and check the Nielsen books, it's clear if you know how to read ratings!
