Tim Becker joins KOIN

Well tonight was jittery with new hire Tim Becker on the air. First of all, welcome to the jungle Mr. Becker, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I think he was brought in for tonight with not a lot of notice, because he couldn't see the scores move and often he would sputter when highlights would change without him knowing. Could be a producer who put together tonights feed and Tim didn't get enough time to proof.

All in all, KPTV's old sports crew is back together in force. Maybe the ship is starting to right itself at third place K-O-I-N.

He hasn't hit the website yet, but hopefully Lynn can throw it up when she sees it.

With all of the people leaving KVAL for bigger and better job opportunitys, now the word is the news director is leaving. Some are happy and some are scared as to what could happen with a new news director.

It is a shame that Ed Whelan is not around for the NFL road trip. Tim Becker can never fill that man's shoes. The entire KOIN sports team is now boring and makes me yawn. Becker is irrelevant - just like the rest of KOIN's news team.

That is the biggest crap I have ever read, I am sorry to say. KOIN's news team is the best in town, KPTV is the one who makes me yawn.

Ed Whelan was the WORST broadcaster in Portland history.
i know..i know...he's had some medical issues in the past....
but, man, koin should have cut bait on this guy a LLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGG time ago.
Thank god someone has finally picked up Becker.
He's about a million times better than Ed.
Now maybe he can finish up his part time job (mowing lawns for Lake Oswego's Parks & Rec.)

Not exactly the Portland Media All-Stars with Gianola (KATU) Day (KPTV and KPDX) Sussman (KGW) and now Becker (KPTV), but interesting nontheless.
Is Becker the first to get out of the non-compete?

Tim Becker is just freelancing for KOIN, and they haven't replaced anybody fulltime in sports. Dan C. holds down the shop alone.
As for the non-compete, i'd imagine it's a moot point; Most of them are for six months, and Tim has been off the air since last year.

Becker's a solid, stand-up guy. Let's face it - local TV is trying to kill local sports, yet they're hiring local guys that viewers like to watch (Becker and Christopherson).

I wouldn't say anyone I know likes to watch either of those two.

I like them both better than Ed Whelan. I missed Tim when he left KPTV.

Joe Becker is the only local sports person I enjoy watching. But I'd really love to see the market grab a big personality type. Where have you gone Crazy Charlie?
