OPB: Colin Fogarty Leaving

Submitted by LynnS on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 10:49am.

When stuff happens at OPB, it really happens. I hear over the transom this morning that ace reporter Colin Fogarty is leaving OPB after 13 years to take a job at Pyramid Communications. His last day is Friday.

For what it's worth, I posted this message to OPB's staff today:

As you know, we've had a number of changes here in the Radio department over the last few months, and now we have one more to announce, this one with a note of sadness.

Colin Fogarty is leaving OPB after 13 years of outstanding, award-winning work in our news department.
It is no exaggeration to say that Colin has been a pillar in this department, setting and raising our standards for excellence. He was one of the most respected journalists at the Capitol when he covered the Legislature. And he's one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to work with. We are really, REALLY going to miss him.

Colin is joining the Portland office of Pyramid Communications after the first of the year. His last day at OPB is this Friday, December 21st.

Thanks,
Morgan

Colin is, hands down, OPB's best reporter.
This is a big blow.

Colin, you will be missed.

With Colin leaving there goes one reason why I would listen to OPB. Good luck with your new job.

If he is leaving because of the new 'less-local-news-is-more-local-news' format....

What's Pyramid Communications? Never heard of it.

Wait, don't answer that - leaving for a for-profit, better pay.

Mornings are going to be that much tougher without Colin there.

I'm sure April is a nice person, but her constant stumbles and awkward phrasing makes it a challenge to listen in the morning. I can't remember the name of the guy she replaced, but it's been tough listening since then.

What are you talking about? You've groused about "April's stumbles" before. We must not be listening to the same person.

April's very smooth.
They have several other announcers with stumble problems, but not April!

Thank you both. Thanks also to Morgan for his kind words and for being a great boss for 13 years. I'm very glad to be leaving OPB in a friendly way. The place is in better shape now than I've ever seen it. But after so many years it's just time for me to make a change. I simply need to do something new. Being an OPB reporter is such a great job, I have no right to get bored with it. It's still a small state and I'm certain I'll talk with many of you again. I'm going to miss running with the pack.

I feel really good about this new job. Pyramid Communications specializes in work for non-profits and progressive causes. I'll be working on projects that I can really feel passionate about. It will be very different from reporting neutrally from the sidelines.
