The foolish people at the Writers Dojo let me join. I'm about 35k words into a novel, even though I do believe that, to paraphrase one of the rotating quotations here, "Every journalist has a novel inside her. And it's a great place for it." Even so, I need to get it out of me. It's taking up space.

And what foolishness are you getting into, my dears?

Untraceable with Diane Lane. Saw it earlier and was not too impressed. But, KPTV really has the negative spotlight shined on them. Twas very funny! I wonder if they knew that was going to happen when they allowed them to use their studios/talent?

I would rather see Jane Smith get the air time instead of that tool shed.

I saw the movie "Untraceable" last night, which was filmed in Portland and includes logos and talent from KPTV. Not a flattering portrayal. It made me wonder if anyone at KPTV had read the script before agreeing to participate.

A wise old marketing executive once told me a company's brand is like a bank account. Every action you take as a company either makes a deposit or a withdrawal from that account. I would say "Untraceable" was a withdrawal from the KPTV brand "bank account."

I was excited to see Portland prominently portrayed in another movie, but this was another stinker (anyone see The Hunted). Anywho I read a review on Oregonlive and the director said that KPTV was very cooperative with the filming of the movie, but no, not flattering at all. Here is the question and answer from the article:

Q: "Our local Fox affiliate has a reputation for
oversensationalizing crime coverage. That's picked up on in the
film. Did they know they
were going to be portrayed as an enabler to the serial killer?"

A: "We needed a station up there that would always be on so the bad
guy could prove that he was streaming live. They stepped up and made
it the easiest. They were great during the entire shoot. When you
approach anyone about being in a movie, almost always they say, "Let
me read it." I assume they read the script."

I noticed on a promo this morning that Natali will be on the morning news with Carl Click. Wonder who will be on the evening, esp. since Debora will be on maternity soon. Hmm, was a February baby planned to help with the ratings?

did KGW hire its new environmental reporter?

Submitted by newsjanitor on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 1:37pm.

Keely Chalmers was moved to environment, her beat is mostly Mt. Hood. She does weather stories from Mt. Hood, sometimes it's snow on Mt. Hood, or skiers on Mt. Hood, or people chaining up on Mt. Hood...then it cycles back to snow on Mt. Hood.

Another blown forcast !!! Nice work !!! I wish I could do my job correctly only 40% of the time and not be held accountable......

It was like the Arctic Circle here in Spokane today...11.2" of new powder covered the entire region. Accidents...roofs collapsing...power lines down...all schools closed tomorrow...planes sliding off runways...dog and cats living together...mass hysteria!

Watching KGW's "Storm" coverage is like reading the fine print of a contract.

"Where here in Vancouver" (Actually in Salmon Creek which is north of Vancouver), "Where here on Burnside" (and Skyline!). I guess everyone watching KGW lives on hills. They then downplay the perfectly fine freeways and act like no one should go to work. I ended up watching amateur hour on Koin to get the facts about the weather and roads. They actually said the freeways were fine and that it wouldn't be a problem for most people, how refreshing.

Just the fact that you watched says it worked. Just stop watching. Compare the National Weather Service forecast to all the TV weenies forecasts. Very similar...Very interesting..Meteorologists my a+*.........

I watched for almost 2 hours this morning and their reporters told me exactly where they were. KGW talked about the freeways a lot but the fact is most of the problems were on side streets.

Thank you for watching KOIN! You should watch more often... :-)

Patrick's note:

I am very pleased to announce that our new 4pm newscast will be anchored by Kim Maus, Shauna Parsons and Wayne Garcia.

This will give us the combined power and energy of Good Day Oregon and the 10 O’clock News.

Julie Grauert will join the Good Day Oregon team co-anchoring from 4:30-7am and reporting from 7-9am.

Sophie Soong will become Kevin Coari’s co-anchor on Saturday and Sunday at 5 and 10pm.

Please wish them all congratulations as we take this next step in our growth.

Yay for Sophie!

Seems she's made some huge strides in her short time at 12. What a thrill to see her move up so quickly.

I'm surprised Patrick would risk a relatively unfamiliar face on such a competitive newscast. Does KPTV feel that comfortable it can beat KGW without Kimberly? I never watch weekends, so I'm not sure who Julie is. I would think KGW will be very happy to hear that Kimberly is leaving the 5-7AM shift.

Submitted by bigboy on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 6:24pm.

Those are significant changes. Congrats to Kim, no more getting up at 3 a.m.

Kim is THE face of Good Day Oregon in my opinion. It goes without saying that moving her will be a shock to the system for many loyal viewers. I just can't see Sophie having the same interaction/rapport that Maus has with the rest of the GDO team; Kim is someone that cannot be replaced easily.

Oh well, good luck KPTV.

I meant Julie, not Sophie.

Submitted by Tv_Viewer on Sun, 02/03/2008 - 10:35pm.

I couldn't agree more: Julie is nowhere ready to get that gig. I think that Sophie would be a much better fit for the mornings with Pete. Is Kim not going to be on Better any more?

Submitted by Anonymous Source (not verified) on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 11:21pm.

No offense, but that girl is no where near ready to fill Kim's shoes. I CAN'T STAND her delivery. It's so small market. Oh well, that's better for KATU, especially since the well-respected, long-time talent of Natali Marmion is back.
