Weekend Open Thread 2/1 - 2/3

Submitted by Myhousemf on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 11:01pm.

Well, there hasn't been an open thread made for this weekend yet so I'll make one.

I just noticed that New Vision is hiring a Webmaster. I don't know if it would be for KOIN or all their stations in general. So, maybe a new/updated site for KOIN coming soon.

KPTV/Internet Broadcasting is also hiring a web news editor.

Talk away...!

[Thanks for doing this. One of my oldest and dearest friends is very ill, and I'm not taking it well.--L]

Why is FOX 12's main anchor team in tonight?

Let's review TV 101, when a huge TV event takes place on your network that is expected to draw HUGE ratings... it is also expected that the main anchor team work the next newscast following that event in the hopes of capturing any new viewers who stumble on to your station. Super Bowls, Oscar night, World Series games, etc all get this type of coverage. You want to put your "best face" forward so to speak. Does it work? Open for discussion. btw it would be nice to see the numbers for the Super Bowl, as well as the news following it.

Yeah, but the news wasn't right after the game. There was House.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest ratings opportunities, so a lot of times, stations will bring in the "A Team" to impress potential viewers.

it's called the Super Bowl. For many years Americans have made it the most watched tv show of the year.

Maybe for the added exposure following the largest Superbowl audience in history??? Doh!

40 rating/ 65 share

Always the biggest numbers of the year.

I have a few questions for the print media out there.
Do newspapers have an industry standard for objectivity while writing an article? We all know television removed that liability years ago and now we see commercials disguised as news you need to know.
The specific story I am talking about was written by Randi Bjornstad of the Register Guard. While reading her story about the Eugene housing market online I noticed one of the ads was for a local realtor. The same realtor happened to be quoted in the article saying 2008 was going to be a good year for real estate.

Here is the article:

and here is my rant about Randi

If there is an actual standard I would love to learn more about it.
Also, how big is real estate advertisement to the local print media?

Lynn-just caught that post. Hope they're doing better. (you too!)

I'm still hopeful, but my friend is in a lot of pain. I'm doing better myself; it's always the initial shock that's the hardest. Thanks for asking, and those of you out there of a praying mind, I wouldn't object to a thought spared for her.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's seems we all take our health for granted until things start going south.

Hang tough.
