Cliff Pfenning writes to tell us about the launch of Oregon Sports Journal:
Saying there’s a need for more quality sports coverage, including inventive and entertaining coverage, oregonsports, Inc., has launched the web site oregonsports.com and its online magazine oregonsports Journal.
The company is locally owned and the magazine uses the philosophy of being a “green” publication as it is downloaded onto a viewers’ computer.
To highlight the creative side of the company, the web site includes the short film, “Pit Crew Rehab,” which is based on the controversy surrounding the UCLA basketball team’s game against Oregon at McArthur Court, Jan. 24.
“There’s a hole in the Oregon sports community that’s centered around entertainment,” says publisher Cliff Pfenning, who also plays the main character in the film. “Every media outlet sees online blogs as the answer for involving the public, but we’re going to make the sports community a lot more entertaining than just a bunch of blogs.
“Our goal is to cover Oregon sports and engage our readers in a way that focus fans, coaches and players on the fact athletics is a key part of every community beyond just wins and losses.”
Who knows, maybe this will fill the gaps in local sports coverage on the tube.

With full disclosure, I do have an axe to grind with him. He advertised for some writers for his new site awhile back ... and then spammed them with a request for donations for his site. He will present nothing I can't get from The "O," Community Newspapers or other local papers. In my opinion, there will be no real content, it will be a way for Cliff to make some money. Just my two cents. I could be wrong, but I'm not very impressed with the effort. I've been aquainted with Cliff for many years and think he's an OK writer, but not the end-all, be-all of sports, especially in the big city.
