Weekend Open Thread, I Got Nothin' Edition 2/23/08-2/24/08

Tired and achy. Spring is "do not want" time for people with fibromyalgia. I've turned into one of those old ladies who complain about their joints. Feh.

But otherwise we're happy and chipper here at the OMI Anchor Desk. Each daughter has her own room to destroy now, after nearly 7 years of sharing, and Cablenut and I have our first closet with an actual door on it in 20 years. ah, luxury.

you?

Did you move or remodel and add-on???

Submitted by LynnS on Sat, 02/23/2008 - 9:32pm.

yes, that bastion of Swedish fine living gave us two lovely wardrobes. Well, they didn't give them to us, we paid for them. Cablenut humped them up the stairs and assembled them, and I use them gratefully.

I just stumbled upon Better TV's Youtube. I didn't know they had one. It looks like they joined more than 2 years ago but only has videos 1 month old.

Exactly what I didn't need!

Hey-
I've noticed that your site seems to be making it necessary
to install an Adobe Flash Player addition.
WHY??????????
Apparently if I don't, it takes ALOT longer to access your site and any subsequent pages. Can I get around this? My system already has a media display system and I don't want Adobe.

Submitted by LynnS on Sun, 02/24/2008 - 10:02pm.

No, you shouldn't need to install Flash. Oh--one of the current ads is Flash! ack. Well, I don't know what to tell you. I need the ad revenue. I'm not actively trying to make it hard for anyone to look at the site, believe me.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned (aka Kvetched) about CW starting a 6 am newscast?

Submitted by Anonymous Source (not verified) on Sun, 02/24/2008 - 2:40pm.

That's a Godcast.

Submitted by Myhousemf on Sun, 02/24/2008 - 4:11pm.

I saw an ad on MAX for it. Good News? Is that what it's called?

Submitted by Anonymous Source (not verified) on Sun, 02/24/2008 - 9:38pm.

I assumed that 6am thing was a Gospel-themed program.

Submitted by Eyenurchips on Mon, 02/25/2008 - 9:33am.

This is a paid program people..just like the 700 Club...

Dancer's saying there's going to be a "change" that will be announced during tonight's 11pm cast. This has to be related to the rumored run for Secretary of State.

What do people think of OPB's "Think Out Loud" program? Maybe I'm late to the party, but I don't think I've seen it on an OMI discussion thread yet.

Lynn-
Thanks for answering my question about Adobe Flash- I have an internet security system (Norton) which warns of such things. Is anyone else having problems?
I also wanted to thank you for creating such a great site!
How very talented you are to implement such a thing!
What a great place to come and to share-
Everyone needs to stand and applaud your creation!!!!
Hope this finds you doing better!

So Rick Dancer just announced he was leaving to run for Secretary of State.....anyone care to comment???
I didn't know until tonight that being a news caster was the same as being the Secretary of state.

What's the story with Don Hamilton, the Columbian reporter who was laid off last week? I heard he was the only reporter out of 30 positions cut at the paper. Is there any suggestion that this was related to the legal troubles he had for looking on the computer in an ambulance, which led to criminal charges that the paper didn't defend? BTW, Don is a former Oregonian and Tribune reporter.

I don't know about the reason for his layoff, but apparently he has resurfaced as the new spokes-flack for the Oregon Secretary of State's office, replacing Scott Moore.

Lynn,

Came across this article today, maybe donning the nose plugs might help your condition.

If there's an ad by Newt Gingrich or Ann Coulter on this site don't shoot the messenger. Interesting read.

...is that KGW is in for some sweeping cuts, beginning with news photogs losing their vehicles, and many other cost saving moves to come. Can anyone from SW Jefferson Street confirm this? Is this the beginning of a nose dive, or just a bump in the digital highway?

Are reductions in staff far off? Rumor is that space in Pioneer Square may run in excess of $50K a month, and the early conversion to local HD cost KGW more than a $Million. Where will that come from? The bottom line, or the backside of every staffer?

Maybe Lynn can elicit some insider info, and bump this thread to the top line. Or, not.

KGW folks, I'm in the book and my contact is up top.
