Obamarama!

We live just a couple blocks from Obama's Portland HQ, and the politicos have invaded our cafe, snarfin' the bandwidth. Tomorrow, the big Obama rally will snarf up the airwaves and all available space on the freeways leading to the Memorial Coliseum. Consider this your coverage thread.

in going live if he isn't there yet. Which as I type this up, his motorcade has still not arrived at the Coliseum.

Looks like KGW got caught a little off base this morning with that Wilson Chow remote from Nowhere. I guess the live shot of the Obama plane made up for it. K2 was the only station live from the Benson. The Deuce' Anita Kiss-ee continued her Shout Out ways with one to Barack Thursday nite.

From what I could tell everyone went live at some point. Some later than others but they all got to it eventually.

I hope the momentum for Senator Obama lasts beyond the primary campaign – and reaches into the general election. Given Oregon's warm response to Senator Obama, he should perform very well in the Oregon Democratic Presidential Primary.

When then-Governor Clinton came to Portland in spring of 1992, I remember the outpouring of support in his Pioneer Courthouse Square appearance was more like that of a concert rather than a political rally. Too, his 1996 campaign visit to downtown as President was amazing as well. Tens of thousands showed up. If Senator Obama wins the Democratic Party Nomination for President, I’m sure he’ll receive the same outpouring President Clinton received when he undoubtedly campaigns in Portland this fall. This is in sharp contrast to a visit paid to Portland by former President George H. W. Bush during his one term in office. His visit was mired in controversy with a good many protesters lining his motorcade route. If memory serves, his limo was pelted with objects thrown by the anarchy set. I guess that what’s why the first President Bush called Portland Little Beirut.

I didn’t watch much of the local coverage, but I was in the area after the event. People and ENG trucks were everywhere. It was fun watching the network and cable news coverage of Senator Obama’s visit. It’s nice seeing the Portland skyline used as a networks correspondent’s backdrop during a stand-up.

I only watched KATU's coverage, but was it as if it was produced by the Obama campaign. What happened to journalism? No mention of the Wright racism controversy no tough questions and no interviews with anyone (Republicans) with opposing views.

What a journalistic disgrace. Were the other stations as pro-Obama and anti-journalism as KATU?

With seemingly every local news outlet getting a "one-on-one" interview with Obama, I was a little curious as to how long each outlet got. It sounded, and looked, like he went down a rope line ala, a red carpet interview.
Worst question I saw, from predictably a young reporter on Fox12, "What do you think of Oregon?"
Granted, if you're only given five minutes, you're not going to get into much, but I didn't really learn anything from any of the interviews.
And what's with KATU going out of their way to do the "not all people are excited about Obama's visit" and showing Victoria Taft on KPAM? I remember when she was a pretty open-minded talk host. What the hell happened?

From what I understand, each station got 3 minutes. I bet he didn't have to stop moving as he went from reporter to reporter down the line.

This thread clearly demonstrates why the press is so mistrusted. No hard questions - and Obama gets a pass on his remarks... "Typical white person?" puh-leeeze! What would happen if someone the media wasn't gushing over said similar remarks..

As just one example, how about Trent Lott vs Chris Dodd and the media double standard?

This is funny. No responses to the poor reporting observations regarding the Obama coverage.

Are all you reporters too embarassed to defend yourselves or are you just caricatures as depicted in the Saturday Night Live sketch where they portrayed reporters 'in the tank for Obama'.

Come on Portland media, why was there no journalism? Are you now in bed with those Portland Indy Media wackos? I'm sure they loved your coverage.

To be fair, I did see Tracy interview Clinton and ask some decent questions. Is it just me, or is it odd to hear "real issues" like health care, foreclosures and the war discussed on local news shows?

It's just you.
I watch KGW and they have a health reporter with in depth stories and health highlights, a business and finance reporter five days a week and quite a few stories on a daily basis on the war.
You actually have to watch the news to see these reports. You can't just form an opinion on what you hear or read from other television news haters who also do not watch.
