Because I can. We got a table close to an outlet, there's wifi, I mean, why not.

Mark and Dave are crackin' wise.

That guy, Brian Prawitz is from Roseburg, and he is representing KQEN. He is the lead in a one-person shop. He is the one person shop at KQEN.

He won 4 AP awards. 4. By his lonesome. 4.

On top of that, he is a nice egg, too!

He could have left a few awards for some other folks, but since he didn't, here is a congrats to you, Brian!

Oh, yeah. Mark and Dave are very funny, and seem to enjoy wine. Dave enjoys it a LOT, apparently :-)

As requested, I shall explain that after the ceremony, we tried to get into the bar, but since there Dave was there with a couple of cases of wine, we didn't make it into the bar proper (can't bring booze INTO a bar, even if the provenence of the booze in question is actually that same bar.) So, that left a hallway, a few chairs a table, a bunch of really happy news folks, a few cases of wine bottles that had been opened, and Dave.

He tried his best, but others were actually drinking at a faster clip than he. But let it be known that he made a valiant effort.

All kidding aside, it was an excellent discussion tonight. Everyone was very very nice, and we had a great time.

thank you, AP.

KATU won more than I expected

KPTV won fewer than I expected

KGW won the important ones as expected

Maybe next year KOIN can win something

Sure, only 15 or so people showed up to the panel I was on. Sure, the 'Nut wasn't feeling so hot so we spent a lot of time in our room...cuddled up...without the kids...with the sound of the surf...ahem. ANYway, y'all couldn't have been nicer, and we had some terrific conversations with people that I hope will continue. While I'm not optimistic about most of the corporate owners of media outlets these days, I AM optimistic (especially after this weekend) about the people.
There will always be storytellers. We just won't be doing it the way we've done it the last 60 years or so, and we probably won't be doing it for the companies we've been working for. And that, my dearest readers, is really exciting.

KGW... Again!? Not KATU? :(

These awards are very subjective. I think we can all find one or two winners last night and scratch our heads. I was really surprised that KPTV didn't win more. Did they submit entries in all the categories or only a few of them?

Looks like KXL's news team got snubbed this year.

KATU didn't even bother submitting for best overall. KGW - congratulations on winning an award for which there was no competition. It certainly proves what an outstanding news organization you are. Don't hurt yourselves blowing hot air up your own behinds.

The deuce didn't bother? Really?

Submitted by Anonymous Source (not verified) on Mon, 04/07/2008 - 8:38am.

You'd probably finish 3rd. I like the strategy though. You don't have to admit you lost... just say you didn't bother to enter.

What are you, ten? Seriously. That's the most juvenile thing I've read on this board, and that's saying something.

Submitted by Anonymous Source (not verified) on Mon, 04/07/2008 - 8:45pm.

But I don't think it was juvenile at all. Someone writes that KATU didn't enter, then blasts KGW for winning a contest in which there was no competition. Then the other poster simply gives a little back saying basically, if you don't have the cajones to enter, then you probably would have finished last. Makes perfect sense to me Shifty.

Aptly put.

There is no competition but not because nobody else entered. KGW just has the best newscast in this market.
