Lars talks about sticking needles in his face to get pretty

OK, now I’ve heard it all.
In the midst of one of his xenophobic rants against Latin American countries today, Lars stopped to do a commercial – on BOTOX!

I am reminded of the time when he dressed down a caller who dared suggest that Lars was a commentator – not a reporter. Lars screamed at him for taking away his First Ammendment Rights.

I am just as old as Lars. In my day – and I would like to think that today – “reporters,” true journalists do not turn their constitutional standing into reading commercials or, in this case, endorsements.

Yes, Lars said he is promoting the BOTOX commercials to pay for his own injections at this clinic.

What is next? Lars schilling for Viagra? (“Yes friends, Lars was getting a little run down, but now thanks to our sponsor, the old Lars is peppy once again.”)

What think ye all? OK these days for commercial endorsements?

He gave up that title a long time ago whether he likes it or not. He's a talk show host. No more, no less.

I was just about to write that if Lars was a journalist he wouldn't be shilling a product for money or free products or services. That would be payola.

Then I remembered some of the business practices of the local TV news orgs. ;-)

this is not the first time we have heard Lars sounding like he is trading out air time for products and services. it sounds small time and minor league to me, especially for a guy with a national audience. but botox sure sounds funny. what happens if it goes bad, and he starts looking like Porky Pig? -- no longer quick brown fox

This actually seems to happen to the big guys too ... the national hosts I like to listen to are always flogging that "buying gold" outfit, for example, all using the same script. I've learned to tune it out, but for a lot of people, having the star personally hawk your wares is still, apparently, of incomparable worth, even if you can tell it's a script.

I see it as a necessary evil myself.

It's going to take a lot more than Botox to make Lars look pretty, but that's just my opinion.

Because you don't like Lars. I am sure if Randy Rhodes (you know what randy means in Britain) hawked some product you wouldn't think anything of it (based on your posts about her on this forum).

Reporters, talkhosts, anchors, tv personalities, sports stars, etc., have traded, spoken for, promoted products and services for years. It is not new. Paul Harvey speaks for some of his sponsors. You hear talk hosts on KGO promoting some of their sponsors. You know it is copy that is written by someone else but the hosts read it as if they were personally promoting it. Local talkshow hosts in Portland have traditionally spoken and promoted products for their advertisers. Even back in the days of KKEY talk shows. Tradeouts have been common in broadcasting for many many years. Some subtle, some not so subtle.

You know it is an ad. If you don't believe it, don't listen or buy the product.

There are much more important things to discuss than Lars Larson promoting Botox injections or spas.

Never knew that was the criteria for posting here.
