Sent the following e-mail to KATU: Why has Derek Sciba picture been taken down from the website? Here is the answer I got back: Derek has moved on from KATU. We'll miss him, but wish him nothing but the best. Thanks for taking time to write! So this begs the question: where did he go and was it his idea to go? ( topics: KATU-TV )
Derek got best investigative story of the year last year at KATU and was certainly no slacker. Solid reporter. Who knows the whims of a ND... I'm sad to see that Derek Sciba has left KATU. He'd be welcome back in Spokane, where he was a weekend anchor/weekday reporter at KXLY ABC 4 before moving to PDX. Derek was a solid reporter and a decent anchor. I wish him the best in whatever is next. Derek Sciba always seemed so ill at ease on the air – it was in fact difficult for me to watch him present live reports. He might be better suited for another medium. As for Julia Radlick leaving KATU, if it’s true, my parents are going to be rather upset – especially my dad. He’s a big Julia fan and was very disappointed she was moved to the weekend. I think she’s good at what she does and I like the chemistry she has with Susan Harding on weekend mornings. It seems very genuine. But I am very excited about Brian Wood coming to KATU. Now that is a very good surprise – and he’ll make a GREAT addition to KATU. I've been a Julia fan for years. I actually enjoy her non-weather stories much more than her weather reporting. It does seem that her photography business is taking off with a new studio and all. Julia is leaving K2, not sure when, to focus on her photography. She is an incredible photog and has a gallery in the pearl. Jules is a great person and an excellent taker of pictures ! I don't know if we covered this on OMI, but I never knew what happened to Deanna Connell, so I Googled her... and waalaa! Derek was a poor fit from the beginning, the current management team felt it was time for a change. His contract was not renewed. Same thing will happen at the end of the month to Julia Radlick. Got resume?
