KGW never learns

Submitted by tvnewser on Tue, 05/20/2008 - 8:46pm.

What a myopic view KGW.com has of its users.

Every other website tonight offers election results galore. But not kgw.com.

Look at more than just a few election results tonight and you find yourself locked out. You must register the site says, or you get no more access to the only news anyone wants tonight: the numbers.

What an insulting way to treat web users and a narrow minded 1999 view of how to run a website.

KATU.com imposes no restrictions. Get your results there!

KGW has one of the best websites in the state.

I've seen it a few times when someone has hotlinked a story.

I agree with you. Some day, they will wake up and realize that they have lost out doubling their usage of the site by being restrictive in the access.

Ad dollars, anyone?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I will never go to KGW until they make the site open for all. Dumb, dumb dumb.

Same can be said for the O's "Tell us when you were born" crap. I'm always a female born in 1911 that jumps from zip code to zip code.

HAH! Eat it!

I sure hope you were being sarcastic when you said that "KGW has one of teh best websites in the state".

Completely agree.

What'd I just say?! Hey I just checked KGW... The results are san-restrictions.

You can probably get to 4 or 5 pages of results.. but then the restrictions will pop in.

It's an asinine policy which insures fewer readers.

Brilliant!

bugmenot.com is your friend in cases like this. I ran into the KGW.com problem last week and found a good username on bugmenot.

I dislike that when I do sign on to KGW.com to read a stroy etc. I get a popup from their website. I've cleaned my browser many times and I've even enabled my popup blocker. but somehow the adnetworks popups sneak through. I check the news through oregonlive.com/newsflash, that way I bypass the slanted coverage(regardless of station) and get the AP's slant. Que Sera Sera.

It isn't KGW but the company that owns them and several other stations including King 5 in Seattle and they have both won awards for best tv news websites. There are several others that you also have to sign up for all over the country. They want to know who is reading their site and where they live and what interests people. They do that so that they can gear their website to please their readers. Even the Tri-City Hearld in Pasco, Kennewick and Richland Washington where I was raised and lived until 12 years ago, makes you sign up to read anything that is more that 14 days old. If they aren't charging me then I can live with the inconvience.

No I am not in any way connected to these stations other than watching them or reading their websites.

Dude,

In this modern-day use of the internets, all of this data is available to them through checking the source of the clicks.

As I said: They are losing usage (about half). People aren't willing to negotiate the pop-ups, sign-ups and B.S. to read a story.

Two things, one is you complain about signing up yet you have to sign up for this website if you want to wait for your posts to be screened etc. The other is if you don't like KGW pop-ups do what I do, use a pop-up blocker.

BTW this is an interesting site.
