OLive Readership Jumps 63%

According to Nielsen Online, OLive's unique audience jumped 63% from March to April, placing it in the top 30 newspaper websites in the nation in April.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Oregonian's circulation was down. Coincidence?

That's great news for O-Live but horrible news for the paper, since Advance publications don't get any Web revenue.

may indeed be connected to shrinking circulation, but anyone who goes to the paper's website in search of the news or information is going to be sadly disappointed: the Oregonian (and all Advance newspapers, since they share the same template/web page) has the worst newspaper website I've ever seen. For comparison purposes, take a look at Oregon Live and then check the Seattle Times or the New York Times or the LA Times or virtually any other good-sized daily. Makes me wonder if there's a troglodyte philosophy out there that people should pay for the news, not get it for free online.

I agree with you. I was shocked, after moving from a city with a very easy to navigate newspaper site (The Deseret News) and one that improved (the Salt Lake Tribune), I found OregonLive to be the most difficult place to find anything news related.

I really like the Seattle P-I site now that I live here.

But where does that leave KGW.com? Doesn't (didn't) it lead for Portland news sites?

Advance gets web revenue from Oregonlive.com, absolutely. Don't post here if you don't know what you're talking about. No offense, but that was just about the dumbest comment ever.

Advance sub-contracts the design and operation of the websites at its newspaper to the parent company of Oregonlive.com... mostly to save salaries on warm bodies. But Advance absolutely gets the revenue.
