KOIN: Art Edwards to Dayside Anchor

Submitted by Nicole on Sat, 06/21/2008 - 10:29am.

I'm surprised nobody has posted this. Koin.com has Mike Donahue's replacement on its site. His name is Art Edwards, and he has connections to the Portland area.

[Lynn here--redid the headline and linked the long URL. Thanks, Nicole. Edwards is still on WDIV's website as of this morning; Edwards was a street reporter there for eight or so years and has 20 years in the biz. Art seems to have lost some hair on the way from WDIV to KOIN. :) Welcome to the market, Art. I'm sure the traditional OMI bashfest will begin momentarily. Let me just say don't take it as this writer's opinion, and that it happens to everyone, so don't take it personally, either.]

Does this finally mean that Jeff is going and why did they bring in a new anchor? Why not promote?

Yet another move for him by KOIN management. How many shifts and shows has this guy worked over 40 years? 12? 25? It's probably one of the reasons he sticks around so long. They tell him what to do and he does it. Good luck Mike.

Maybe Mike has stuck around for 40+ years because he has never had to do the same gig long enough to get bored with it.
There's something to be said for variety in your job.

Hopefully, he can help liven up KOIN’s morning and noon news offerings. KOIN has gone through so many personnel changes on its morning and noon broadcasts over the past five years that something’s got to give. I think Mike Donahue is a fantastic anchor and reporter, but never felt his strong suit was mornings or early afternoon. And I think KGW’s morning and noon programs are hurting without Wilson Chow and Jennifer Iveson. Maybe this will be the beginning of something new in Portland.

So did Mike get Fired or Forced to Retire ?????

He's once more going out in the field. I think he was the stop-gap for Lynn Huston and was never intended to stay in the morning anchor chair for long.

By the looks and sounds of the Mike Donahue promos that KOIN is running - one would think Mike Donahue has died. Is Mike still alive? For that matter is Jeff Gianola still alive? Relevant?

At least KOIN can count on 2 viewers for their morning show. That's 2 more than they have right now.
Here's to no more hash marks!

What an opportunity to use his vast experience on the street and the desk.
Good for Mike.

MIKE DONAHUE becomes Chief Correspondent of KOIN News 6 and ART EDWARDS takes over for Donahue on Good Morning Northwest at KOIN TV, Portland, Oregon.

I think the new guy is great. Maybe one of the many great changes to come. Could we get rid of Jenny next. Then Kelley and have jeff and Mike anchor again that would be great. Or have Ken Boddie moved back up. He deserves to be moved up to the top soon.

they need to leave Jenny where she is, she is the reason I watch in the mornings. easy on the eyes.

That's how you decide which station to watch? I guess you deserve what you get with KOIN's morning show then.

Like all the others have said, if they were to bring him back on the desk fulltime their ratings would go back up.

Mike sure has a Good Christian attitude, considering how they treat him & he keeps staying there.

He is way to good to be treated the way that they treat him.

We should start a group to get him back on to the anchor desk. Like a riot infront of the koin building. Why can't they have two male anchors. All the others have either two females like on 8 2 and 12. For their evening and after noon shows. They could have two males and make them unique and stand out. By the way instead of Jenny in Mornings they should have Alexis Del cid.

I love Jenny. True she's easy on the eyes but that's not why I enjoy her in my house each morning. I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person and she impressed me. I felt like I'd known her a long time.

Does any one know how old Mike is, How about Jeff Gianola, and Steve Dunn. I am trying to figure out how far apart they are in age.
