Weekend Open Thread, Dawnzerly Light Edition 7/4/08-7/6/08

Just got back from the Beavers game and fireworks, and what a show all round! Nutling #1 and I were there all night, and Cablenut and Nutling #2 joined us right after the 7th inning for the rest of the game and the fireworks. As it happened, that was the time to come: The Beavers batted a home run with bases loaded--first time I've ever been privileged to see such a thing at a live game. Pretty exciting.

The cordite smoke in our neighborhood is so thick it's obscuring the streetlights. hack, wheeze.

ETA: The kid who hit the "grand slam" was Peter Ciofrone. Seven runs in the eighth inning, including those four. Wotta game.

Did anyone notice how UNimpressive fireworks looked in HD?
Yes, I watched on an HD set.

Damn KGW promoted the hell out of it all week. And for that?

I don't need 1080 lines to see black night skies. Dark is dark no matter the resolution.

I think it looked pretty nice in HD.

...because I thought it was cool as hell in HD. Missed the helicopter perspective, though...can't wait till Sky 8 is HD equipped...

Someday your station will broadcast in HD -- then you can show us how it's done... Someday

Blackouts happen to people who drink too many beers on the 4th of July.
I watch the fireworks on HD and they were spectacular. Much better than in years past. There was probably a total of 30 seconds of black sky during the entire show which was longer than 30 minutes.
Thanks to KGW and their photographers and director for a wonderful fireworks show.

I like baseball but I sometimes lose all the lingo in the clutter that is my head. I just wish I'd caught the kid's name so I could credit him correctly (will look in today's paper).

Hi Lynn,

(Love the blog...I'm a news "junkie"/citizen/government PR type).

Did you see the column in Saturday's Columbian about upcoming staff cuts and changes to the newspaper including no more food section, only one page for opinion, etc etc...? Column from the editor pasted in below:

[Cut for fair use--see the front page, I've promoted this. Thanks for the heads-up.--L]

I found this while browsing Youtube. It's hilarious! Who knew they could operate a video camera but then again they need something to do between smoke breaks.
