What makes KGW so "great"

Submitted by .Chris on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 5:01pm.

I want to know what makes KGW so great? The fact how they word their newscasts like "a crash on I205 leaves two dead five injured, and a family in shocked as they were inches from death"

please, thats totally amateurish Same with ALL NBC stations

I just want to know what makes KGW the best in town. I hope to hear from people other then KGW people as I know you will brag how ur work is the best place...

Wow. Please, please....I beg you....take an English course on grammar and punctuation. The editor in me is beginning to twitch.

Using an abbreviation like "ur" for "your" is amateurish when posting a topic or a story, and makes you like like a 14 year old girl on AOL chat.

For this viewer, KGW does an excellent job of reporting the news in the Portland market without seeming gimmicky. I enjoy the work of both the reporters and anchors. They do a very good job. I especially enjoy Randy Neves' coverage of City Hall -- he does a great job and I feel like I learn something from his reports. And I enjoy Kyle Iboshi’s no nonsense approach to reporting on issues of crime and punishment. Too, their sports reporting is better than their competitors, especially for a non sports fan like me. I also appreciate KGW's graphics and promotions. Compared to their competitors, they’re top flight in my book.

If I have any issues with KGW, it's with their weekend morning news. I could do without so many weather updates. But that's what sells I guess, especially on a weekend morning. On weekend mornings, I prefer KPTV (at least at the top and bottom of the hour).

KGW is a good station, dont get me worng, I just dont like their promotions, nor the personalty on there. Graphics are good. But seem just a slight tweak from the last set.

I dont undertand it with the NBC stations, but they all seem to have the same sort of fell. When I watch the news, I dont want to be bored to death by the reports and newscasters. I want to get the news while still being entertained between takes (News - Weather, Weather- News, News- sports, Sports- News Before break etc)

Just read on Steph's Olympic blog that KGW isn't sending a producer with her. Here is a link for more info: http://tinyurl.com/6samfp

Reporters go out of town without a producer all the time. She'll be fine.

Sounds like it's a big deal or else why would it come up? KGW is not doing something they've always done before, if I'm reading that correctly. Why not?

Good luck to Steph, because this isn't like doing snow live shots from Government Camp. It's not happening right behind you.

It's tough to report stories when you have restricted access and when the mother ships keep you tethered to a satellite truck doing dozens of "Greetings from Beijing" live shots.

If someone tells you it's not about the money, it's always about the money.

Having lived out East and in the Midwest, Portland's news is lacking in similary sized markets. Ranking the newscasts in order of quality would be: KGW,KATU,KOIN and possibly KPTV(depends on the anchor)
