Today, I noticed KATU's voice-over for everything ranging from their news intros and closes to any basic 'ole advertisement has changed. It used to be Al Vanik, but apparently not anymore. Two questions: Who is it, and why'd they change? ( topics: KATU-TV )
He's the Westwood One guy. Speaking of voice overs, here is an old promo from early 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztSHTeMlfe8 the woman used to do all the voice overs for KATU in the mid - late 90s... now who was that. She sounds a lot better then the new guy. But Al is still the best... That voice on Youtube is my dear friend Lisa Brooks. She works at KOMO AM, and has wonderful, warm pipes! So Al was just ditched for something new? I'm not liking the new voice, or maybe I just miss the old. Hey thanks for the YouTube link, I didn't know so many neat'o KATU clips were on the web, especially the one where Ed Teachout (BTW, what happened to him... I remember seeing him report not that long ago?) tells us about the upgrade to Windows 95. Wow it really gives KATU a history. :D around a year and a half ago he want back to selling homes.. like Ken akerman did. My Parents got to meet ed one time. they were interviewe about the oregon no call list. This was back around 2003. He was a good guy on Katu. But Shelly took his segments to a whole new level. Yeah,. the 1995 clip is the oldest katu on youtube. but there are older To what level did Shelly take it? Her consumer reports are only premade reports from Consumer Reports. If you pay attention, all of those reports contain the line "Consumer Reports tests" or something similar. The data and video is fed to "subscribing" stations and each one can use their own anchor to do the report with the fed video. Ed did more of his own investigations. I'm not complaining. I have no dog in the fight. But call it what it is. This is basically no different than sponsored segments on KPTV's GDO. ...was the female voice of KATU back in the '90s. http://www.suzynelson.com/ The new voice of KATU is BRAD ABELLE. Al is a very nice guy with a nice set of pipes. There were other considerations, but ultimately, the decision was made to take the "audio realm" in another direction. Post new comment |

I liked the sound of Al Vanik. I haven't heard the new guy yet.
Speaking of voice-overs, who is the voice on 95.5 fm? That guys delivery is so weird, but it sticks in your head.
