Playhouse vs Bikers May Be Getting Serious

I've been watching this whole Playhouse hates bikeriders thing since it started developing last week but didn't blog about it. Probably should have. Nutshell: Jammin 95.5 morning show DJ PK makes statements widely interpreted as hostile to bicyclists on last Thursday's show, hostile as in encouraging drivers to run them over. What exactly was said we don't know because, unlike most Playhouse episodes, the podcast for 7/13/06 is strangely unavailable.

Anyway, word has gotten around that bike activists were going to protest at an upcoming Jammin' 95.5 event. Tensions had risen to the point that Sam Adams was about to step in to defuse things.

But it may not be necessary. Station manager Tim McNamara wants to make amends. From BikePortland.org:

I just got off the phone with Tim McNamara. Tim is the program manager for The Playhouse radio show and a partial owner of Rose City Radio, which owns KXL-AM and KXJM 95.5. ...

Tim admitted that when he heard the comments on Thursday’s broadcast he called the station right away. Tim was absolutely appalled that the show hosts clapped at the story of a cyclist being hit. ...
