And in other "news" ...

The O ran two stories about Macy's today, plus a teaser on the front page. Meanwhile, KGW was promoting an enterprise story on how to buy a mattress for its evening news. (Presumably, one needs to sleep like a baby.) I wonder if any other volume advertisers have great story ideas.

Try running stories about the EEOC violations at the tire company when they've bought advertising on all the local stations. They have money spread all over the place with sponsored weathercasts, WeatherPlus, Ski Reports, Helicopters etc...

Is that the day the violations were made public, KOIN did stories in all newscasts, including a SOT with one of the plaitiffs who lives in Seattle, provided by KIRO. It does happen, but some professionals like Ken Boddie were not about to back away from a legitimate story, simply because they are a prime sponsor and business partner of KOIN.

You know how much grief the GM at KATU was given over pulling the rug out from under the Comcast rate hike!

Fox is the undisputed tie-in king, if you ask me. Almost without fail when there's a reality show on, you can expect a "news story" about what happened in the show earlier that evening. And no playoff baseball game happens on Fox without some Fox network actor showing up in the stands, and getting camera time--sometimes even ending up in the booth. What amazing coincidences!

Fox is just the most blatant about selling the news. Drew Carney was always doing schtick for Fox advertisers.
Wonder if he'll carry that fine journalistic standard over to KGW.

Oh. Gee. Yea, they're the ones who use anchors to shill for Les Schwab, grocery stores in NW Natural in the course of the their extremely profitable "charity" drives.

I've worked with Drew on several stories, none of which were KPTV advertisers. You really shouldn't paint him with such a broad brush as to say "always." Drew has always been one of the best prepared and herdest working reporters I've dealt with.

I'm pretty sure everybody in town ran the Les Schwab story. I know K2 had the same woman from it's big sister KOMO, in fact she was not hard to find considering she held a presser at her lawyers office. The real question is how deep can you go, and where has the folo-up been? About the same as other stories, or less because of the sponsorship thing?

On and off for the last month and a half... MORE's had it in the bag.
And while we're at it, what's with KGW piggy-backing KPTV's stories about gym germs, RV shows and others?
Can't you just stick with Yoshida and Mr. Food? ;)
