Best to Sheila Hamilton

KINK ND/afternoon drive anchor Sheila Hamilton's husband Michael has been found dead. A memo from KINK PD Dennis Constantine said Michael had been missing for six weeks; his body was found over the weekend. I don't know Sheila but I'll be lighting a candle tonight for her and her family.

How terrible. Any information on the location or cause? It seems like such insufficient sentiment, but best wishes of course to Sheila and all Michael's family and friends.

There is nothing on any new site about this. Was it a suicide. I hope not. Sheila is one of the nicest women on radio or television.

I worked with Sheila when she was at KATU. My heart goes out to her, her daughter and the rest of their family. I'm curious as to why there was nothing on the news about this. He was missing for six weeks? Anyone know the back story?

I am so so sorry to hear that news. Sheila is one of the really good people in PDX media and she is a great mom as well.

My heart goes out to her and the whole family.

So sad.

Members of the Multnomah County Search and Rescue Team, aided by a recovery dog, found the body of a missing 53-year-old Portland man on Larch Mountain on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Michael Anthony Brochocki, 53, died of a single gunshot wound to the head, said Lt. Jason Gates, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Brochocki is thought to have committed suicide in late October after he failed to return to his girlfriend’s home in the 41000 block of Larch Mountain Road, Gates said.

Sheriff’s deputies were first called to the girlfriend’s home Saturday, Oct. 7, when she reported that Brochocki was attempting to commit suicide.

By the time officers arrived, Brochocki had reportedly left the area on foot, but deputies found a pill bottle, razor blades and blood splatter in the area, Gates said.

At the time Brochocki was also thought to have had a handgun that had been taken from his girlfriend’s residence.

Deputies did a perimeter search of the area, but were unable to find Brochocki. However, they were called back to the scene later that evening when he returned to the house.

Brochocki was then involuntarily committed for assessment, but was reportedly released sometime on or before Monday, Oct. 23, Gates said.

Brochocki returned to his girlfriend’s home on Oct. 23. She again called the police on a welfare check, as she realized the gun was missing and speculated that Brochocki may have it.

Officials decided against deploying the Search and Rescue Team at that time, fearing for the safety of the teens involved, Gates said.

Does the Gresham Outlook have a policy of reporting on suicides? What is it about the story that makes it something other than the suicide of a private citizen? (which most news organizations don't cover). The fact that they found him outside? So if you commit suicide inside your home, it's not news but if you do it outside, it's news?

Clarification:
after reading the Outlook story, is Sheila the ex-wife or girlfriend?

She is the ex wife. They have a teenage daughter together. They are doing as well as can be expected and she is aware and greatly appreciates all the kind thoughts.

I grew up in Gresham. My friends' suicides were always news. Heck my best friend's death from the Flu was news. I still have the article.

Michael was beautiful in all ways. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, his mother and his sisters in Canada and England. Let's remember how much we loved him in life; his wonderful intellect, his humour, his sensitivity, his charm and his great stature. Let's all go to bat for those who suffer from the terrible killer disease of depression.
