Daria O'Neill: Queen of All Media?

Today's Statesman-Journal crowns Daria O'Neill:

Daria O'Neill, Portland's quirky "queen of all media" is making a stop in Salem this weekend.

She's in town to play master of ceremonies at a concert by alternative rock band FarCry as part of the Salem Public Library's "World of Music at the Library" series.

"It's a total coup for us to have her here with FarCry," said Sonja Somerville, the library's event coordinator.

Salem must be a sleepier town than I thought. Thanks to the reader who sent this to me.

but she's definitely a princess.
Over the years she has been able to survive and thrive in what is basically a boys club—filled mostly with insecure jerks. Sure, she may have a great set of jugs, but right behind them is a voice that is continuing to grow and develop. I wish her well, now that she has her own show.

im glad pdx49 took her off the air. she was horrible! but now, look at who they have: cloe or something? she's not much better.

I always thought she looked a little like a tranny with a large set. Must have something to do with the weird haircut. She's definitely NOT the queen of all media for that matter. A real COUP to have her? Hmm, maybe that's why I never go to Salem for anything.

on the radio - very quick witted. And I agree with the first poster, it's nice to see a woman make it in the boys club and be better at it than most of them.

I must be God.

TV, not so much. And, by all accounts, a cool person. But MC'ing in Salem (at the library?) is not exactly a career boost. And who praytell is FarCry?

Seems like I read the girl went to Reed, does comedy improv...must be some kind of brain up there. Not hard to tell why 49 hired her though. O-o-oh-h...those sexy outfits that pick the headlights up and help to make dull programming do a little better. She seemed pretty awkward making her announcements, but definitely got better over 6 months or whatever. It was really nice to see some tv talent that was out of the usual broadcast talent mold.

Is very talented. I've acted with her and she is fantastic to work with and even funnier in person.

The afternoon drive show on 105.1 was marginally entertaining with Daria and the two men who just left. She's definitely got a wit--but that long-winded diatribe she does is absolutely horrible. I've switched my car radio to something else every time she starts in.

(Of course I'm a KPOJ, OPB and KGON listener the majority of the time, so maybe I'm too stodgy and stuck-up to get it)

The funny thing about radio is that 9 out of 10 people can think you're nails on chalkboard, and if 1 out of 10 think you're great, then you've got a 10 share and that's huge. I myself miss her TV breaks during the Simpsons reruns, but my wife always punched me for watching.

But I'm weird that way. I haven't heard her on the radio, the stations she's been on aren't my thing.

Town for a long, long time...

We used to have a nice selection of radio personalities.

Now it's all the same gay-bashing, crude moronic characters.

Go Daria!

STOP listening to Z100 you stupid fool. Besides, when has radio been a refuge for gay talent? Your types seem to be doing better in prime time television and movies so quit your bitching. And I'm on your side!

Yes, Z100's nightside is outrageously stupid, and when I asked them why they do it, it's because of their demo... I call it lack of pre-planning.. (My old radio advisor would probably back me on this one...)

Anyway, back to Daria - Her style is probably the closest thing to the Portland motto: "Keep Portland wierd!" (In a cool, and enlightening way... Not "Keep Portland intellectually-retarded.")

Daria, we <3 ya! :D
