Submitted by .Chris on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 5:01pm.

I want to know what makes KGW so great? The fact how they word their newscasts like "a crash on I205 leaves two dead five injured, and a family in shocked as they were inches from death"

please, thats totally amateurish Same with ALL NBC stations

I just want to know what makes KGW the best in town. I hope to hear from people other then KGW people as I know you will brag how ur work is the best place...

KGW Holds DTV Test

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 1:11am.

KGW apparently held a DTV test tonight and Seattle's KING-5 will be next week. Apparently, Spokane's KREM2 held a similar test on May 18th.

I-205 chase: great call by KATU

Submitted by Zamboni on Fri, 07/04/2008 - 10:31am.

People get knocked around a lot here - so for contrast - big congrats to the team at K2 for having the presence of mind to roll on the ODOT cameras for the chase.

Great video that you just couldn't stop watching (story suggestion: was it really a great idea for the constabulary to crash into the guy and send him skidding across six lanes of traffic on a busy holiday weekend? Looked like someone's been watching too many of one of those C.W. Jensen "World's Wildest Car Chases and Doughnuts" specials that rerun on Tru TV).

It would be great to see the Web hits for this.

KGW to Launch 7pm Newscast in September

Submitted by Media Joe on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 11:32pm.

Northwest News Channel 8 annnounced today that starting in September, solid date yet to be determined, they will be launching a 7pm, 30min regular newscast.
Despite recent announcements to not replace staff; management plans on hiring one additional reporter, producer and part time editor.
From what I hear at the moment the format is going to take a political slant. No pun intended.
Which begs the question, what happens after Novemeber?

KGW: EP Ramirez Leaving

Submitted by LynnS on Mon, 06/02/2008 - 8:58am.

KGW EP Sally Ramirez is leaving 15th and Jeff--sorta. It's a complicated leave-taking, to say the least. She leaves on the 10th until early September and then comes back through November book to help with sweeps and launching the new Pioneer Courthouse Square studio. From Rod Gramer's memo:

I will save my formal good-byes until November. But I have to say a few words about this terrific producer, manager and friend. I do not have the space or time here to enumerate all the ways Sally has contributed to the success of KGW NewsChannel 8 over the past 10 years. Sally was my first hire when I came here 10 years ago as executive news director and she has been like my right arm ever since. She is a consummate professional journalist and a wonderful person to boot. You can't always combine those qualities in one person. Needless to say I will miss her.

The official reason for her leaving is to "spend more quality time with her family," and judging by the staggered leave-taking, that's probably really the case for once. Ramirez is also married to morning anchor Russ Lewis.

KGW never learns

Submitted by tvnewser on Tue, 05/20/2008 - 8:46pm.

What a myopic view KGW.com has of its users.

Every other website tonight offers election results galore. But not kgw.com.

Look at more than just a few election results tonight and you find yourself locked out. You must register the site says, or you get no more access to the only news anyone wants tonight: the numbers.

What an insulting way to treat web users and a narrow minded 1999 view of how to run a website.

KATU.com imposes no restrictions. Get your results there!

Wilson Chow leaving NWCN/KGW

Submitted by SeattleTVGuy on Wed, 04/30/2008 - 11:32pm.

Some news from NWCN:

Quote:
This is another note of mixed emotions about a soon-to-be-departing member of NWCN and KGW. Wilson Chow, is leaving our operations to take a position with the Boeing Company, with his last day being Friday, May 9.

Rod Gramer and I cannot express how instrumental Wilson has been in the success of the Portland Bureau operation over the last three years and his major contribution to the continuing strength of KGW's news team. He has been valued for his hustle, enterprise, early-adapting web work and his handling of breaking news no matter when or where.
