AP: Shooman on Extended Leave

Submitted by LynnS on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 12:33pm.

We hear today that Annie Shooman of the AP is on open-ended disability leave. We met her at the April broadcast awards, and we hope she's doing all right. Our source wanted to know who would be filling in for Annie; the AP told us today that no one person would be filling her shoes, that they'd basically be taking up the slack as a group. That's a lot of slack.

Obit: Former Oregon AP Editor Gordon McNab

Submitted by LynnS on Tue, 03/14/2006 - 2:18pm.

Gordon McNab has died just shy of his 100th birthday:

Macnab spent many of his A-P years as its Oregon news editor.

Frank Wetzel, former A-P Oregon bureau chief, says MacNab was known for his integrity. Wetzel says Macnab could be testy and demanding of others, but he demanded it of himself as well.

Wetzel added: "He was just an outstanding newsman."

McNab retired in 1971, so you'd have to be a real old-time Insider to have worked with him. Still, 30 years in the Oregon press corps deserves a farewell from OMI.

AP, Oregonian and KGW Sue for Docs in Wilberger Case

Submitted by LynnS on Fri, 11/11/2005 - 10:03am.

The three have filed suit against the Benton County DA's office and the Corvallis Police Department for access to paperwork involved in charging a man with Brooke Wilberger's death. The three say an affidavit in support of a search warrant that led to the arrest of Joel Patrick Courtney is being improperly withheld.

The suit was filed October 28th. I'm not finding much info about it on the web. Is this the first we're hearing about it? That seems hard to believe.
