Submitted by LynnS on Sat, 09/09/2006 - 11:43am.

Former longtime KOIN owner (and current multiple Oregon newspaper operator) Lee Enterprises is selling off a bunch of properties, including Portland/Seattle's Nickel Ads:

Lee's Eastern Washington publications and commercial printing operation will be sold to Target Media Partners of Los Angeles. That includes six publications based in Spokane, two in Kennewick, two in Moses Lake, two in Wenatchee and one in Walla Walla, along with some Web sites and other printing operations.

It also will sell the Little Nickel and Nickel Ads Classified, which has offices in Seattle and Portland, to an affiliate of British Columbia's Black Press.

not sure what to make of this yet:

Let's talk local sports

As my online nom de plume might suggest, I care about sports and I have lots of strong opinions about how sports are covered.
What I don't care about is how the Blazers, Oregon or Oregon State are covered (basically, anything that comes with a buffet and a heated pressbox).
That said, I'd like to hear your opinions on how (and how well) local media outlets -- mostly daily and weekly newspapers and occasionally TV -- cover local sports. Most of what I'm interested in is how your local high school teams and small colleges are covered.
Who does a good job? Who works hard? Who just sucks and who doesn't even try?

New Publisher for the Gazette-Times

i'm not sure what this means, but the GT has a new publisher. i'm thinking this is not the Rupert Murdoch kind of publisher, shelling out the bucks to print the thing. seems more like a super-editor, since the various Lee newspapers all have their own publisher.

anyway, his name is Mike McInally, he's from Missoula, Montana, and he came up thru the ranks, beginning as a cub reporter and serving as its editor. he's won awards for the paper, but what it's editorial stance was, or how hard he pushed his reporters to dig into stories, i don't know. anyone familiar with the Missoulan? should we expect real coverage or will it become the OSU Paper of Record?
